To visit Rome, Italy, you may need to obtain a visa depending on your nationality and the length of your stay: 
U.S. citizens
Can visit Italy for up to 90 days without a visa for business or tourism purposes. However, you must complete a declaration of presence. 
Indians
Need a visa to visit Italy. Requirements include: 
A valid passport with at least 6 months of validity 
A completed visa application form 
Passport-sized photographs 
Proof of sufficient funds for the trip 
Travel insurance covering up to €30,000 
Flight itinerary and accommodation details 
Schengen visa
A short-stay (Type C) visa allows travel to and between all 29 Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. To stay longer than 90 days, you need a national (Type D) visa
